Tailings Storage Facility Lift 1 (TSF1) Raise 10, Pajingo Gold Mine

Situated in North Queensland, approximately 50 kilometers south of Charters Towers and 134 kilometers southwest of Townsville, the Pajingo gold operation is a significant mining endeavor. The Stage 10 raise works for the Tailings Storage Facility Lift 1 (TSF1) Project constituted a pivotal aspect of its ongoing development, entailing the elevation of the embankment crest level to RL1,306m and the augmentation of TSF1 capacity for storing process residues derived from mining operations. These enhancements were imperative to ensure compliance with the prevailing Environmental Authority (EA) permit conditions.

Exact Civil Construction were awarded the TSF1 and their performance was exemplary, not only did the team complete the project two months ahead of schedule but they also generated substantial savings exceeding $3.5 million for Minjar Gold.

Despite encountering external circumstances necessitating the extension of the Project program, including construction activities persisting into the wet season, Exact Civil Construction adeptly navigated these challenges. Mitigation strategies were effectively deployed to mitigate risks associated with inclement weather, such as the expansion of the workforce, establishment of a night shift for continuous 24-hour operations, and extension of work schedules throughout the Christmas period.

A critical facet of the project involved the acquisition and deployment of 1.7 million cubic metres of borrow material for embankment construction. Notably, this material was sourced directly from the project site, meticulously screened to exclude large rocks, and conditioned to ensure its properties aligned with the project's design specifications.

The successful acceleration of Project completion underscores the commitment of Exact Civil Construction in meeting the operational demands of the Pajingo Mine, particularly with regards to production requirements and tailings capacity.
