Exact Civil Construction Pty Ltd awarded the Tailings Storage Facility Buttress Construction Project at the Ernest Henry Mine

Evolution Mining Pty Ltd (Evolution), leading asset owner in the mining and processing sector, awarded Exact Civil Construction Pty Ltd (Exact) the Tailings Storage Facility Buttress Construction Project (“the Project”), a significant undertaking, further solidifying Exact’s position as a trusted Contractor to the mining industry.

The Ernest Henry Mining (EHM), renowned for its copper and gold mining operations, processes a substantial 6.8 million tons of copper-gold ore annually through advanced underground methodologies. With a workforce of approximately 600 individuals, EHM employs sub-level carving techniques for extraction, hoisting ore via shafts, and processing it on the surface before shipping as concentrate.

The Project's primary objective is to reinforce the buttress, ensuring a robust factor of safety against Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) instability. This crucial fortification is pivotal for the proposed embankment raise, which aims to extend the Life of Mine (LOM) by March 2027.

Exact’s focus is on the complete construction of the East and South Walls and half of the North Wall, including integral technical components such as addressing seepage channels, spillways, instrumentations protection, and decommissioning of old decant infrastructure. The meticulous planning and execution of these elements underscore Exact’s expertise in managing and delivering complex projects within the mining sector.

The extensive scope of the Project encompasses:

Clearing and grubbing
Stripping existing clay capping for stockpiling and reuse
Trial embankment
Seepage blanket construction at four locations
Relocation of V-notch weirs and monitoring systems
Construction of four buttresses (North - east, East - north, East - south, and South)
Installation of six settlement plates
Spillway construction at two locations
Placement of clay capping, and extension of decant pipes.
